We don’t blindly boast about our UF water filter like a peddler singing praises of their own goods, but we can tell you the real reason behind the 0.1 μm filtration accuracy of our washable external pressure membranes.
The filtration accuracy of an ultrafiltration membrane is primarily determined by its material.
99.99% of washable external pressure membranes on the market are made of PVDF reinforced membranes. Any filter cartridge of this material has a filtration accuracy of 0.1 μm. Of course, some ultrafiltration membranes of inferior quality may have larger pore sizes, resulting in lower filtration accuracy and poorer interception performance.
There are two types of PVDF membranes:
One is the reinforced type, the well-known external pressure membrane, with a filtration accuracy ranging within 0.1~0.15μm.
The other is the non-reinforced type, professionally known as a homogeneous membrane, which has a slightly higher filtration accuracy ranging within 0.05~0.1μm.
Since homogeneous membranes have no inner reinforcement, both their inner and outer walls are smooth, and their membrane filaments are much thicker than those of reinforced membranes, giving them
superior fouling resistance performance. However, homogeneous membranes cost far more than reinforced membranes, and when used as external pressure membranes to be washed manually, they run the risk of filament breakage. That’s why PVDF reinforced membranes are the mainstream external pressure membranes on the market.
For the sake of easy recall, we state the accuracy of PVDF reinforced membranes as 0.1 μm for reference.
Whether reinforced or non-reinforced, the filtration accuracy of PVDF membranes always fluctuates around 0.1 μm, far from reaching 0.01 μm, this is an inherent property determined by the material itself.
A consulting customer once told us that a salesperson from another brand claimed their PVDF reinforced external pressure membranes could achieve 0.01 μm filtration accuracy simply because their membrane filaments are denser.
Denser membrane filaments? That just means more membrane filaments in quantity. But can increasing the number of membrane filaments raise the filtration accuracy from 0.1 μm to 0.01 μm?
This claim is just like saying water in a bucket is denser than water in a bowl just because there’s more of it. It reminds me of a classic joke I heard years ago: Which is heavier, 1kg of iron or 1kg of cotton?
Many people’s first reaction is that iron is heavier.
Both weigh 1kg, how can iron be heavier?
The same logic applies to PVDF reinforced membranes: no matter how many or how dense the membrane filaments are, the filtration accuracy remains 0.1 μm. Because increasing the number of filaments only increases the membrane area, it does not alter the intrinsic properties of the PVDF reinforced membrane itself.
So why is the filtration accuracy of hand-washable external pressure membranes from ChengrongEra and Chengrong Factory only 0.1 μm? Simply because the material used is PVDF reinforced membrane.
